The JCH Group
Cindy started her career in the advertising industry working as a display advertising salesperson for Freedom newspapers. She went on to run a successful advertising agency that specialized in the long term care industry where she helped develop successful marketing campaigns for Independent Living, Assisted Living and Alzheimer’s facilities. This naturally evolved into the founding of JCH whose sole focus as a brokerage has been in the sales of Assisted Living, Independent Living, Skilled Nursing, CCRC’s, Long Term Care and Alzheimer’s facilities.
Cindy held an Assisted Living administrators license for many years and has participated in over 100 transactions in her tenure at JCH totaling over $900M. Cindy holds a BA in Criminal Justice from Sacramento State University and in her spare time loves to spend time exploring the CA desert in her jeep and boating on the Colorado River.
Jim is one of the Co-founders of the JCH group. He has specialized solely in the long-term care real estate business for most of his professional career. His in-depth background in facility operations and marketing has long given him an impressive advantage in finding hidden value in long term care properties. Jim and Lee Blake started working together at the WRD Group nearly 25-years ago and together have closed some of the largest transactions in the industry. During his real estate career he has sold over $1 billion in senior healthcare properties and is well on the way to his second billion.
Jim got his start in the long-term care industry as a Regional Director of Marketing for the Hillhaven Corporation now known as Kindred Care. He was a regional director of marketing with 30 facilities and about 3,400 skilled and IL/ALZ/AL living beds under his direction. Like the other people at JCH, our understanding of the industry comes from having hands on experience, not simply through the eyes of a real estate agent and its inherent limited perspective.
Jim earned his Bachelor’s Degree from California State University, Fresno in Radio and Television with an emphasis in advertising and marketing. He resides with his wife and 4-dogs in Anaheim Hills, California.
Nick joined the JCH team in 2005 with an ambition to utilize his passion for finance and healthcare. Over the past thirteen years Nick has closed nearly $1B in healthcare real estate, including independent living, mental health, adult day care, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and CCRC’s. Formerly a licensed assisted living administrator, Nick has an in depth, grass roots knowledge of the senior care industry. Prior to joining the JCH team, Nick also worked for a wholesale lender and as a multi-family broker. This mixture of past experience truly tailored Nick to be the senior housing broker he is today.
Nick holds a BA in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance, from California State University of Fullerton. Nick was a dean’s list student 6 out of his 8 semesters at Cal State Fullerton and was one of the first students to enroll in their business honors program. Nick is fortunate enough to apply his college degree to his career on a daily basis, a privilege not many college graduates are able to enjoy.
Over the past several years, Nick has developed a passion for training service, therapy and protection dogs. He currently works with a not-for-profit group that trains dogs to provide companionship for residents at skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. The training group also trains dogs to aid autistic children and war veterans with post-traumatic stress syndrome in their daily living activities.
The story of Shep’s senior housing career began in Southern California where he was born and raised. As a principal at CMA, he helped establish and run their Los Angeles senior housing division. After a couple years with the firm, it was clear his friendship and business relationship with Jim and Cindy Hazzard was growing. In 2003, Shep was honored to join forces with the JCH team.
As a Senior Vice President of JCH, Shep specializes in acquisition and sales across the entire spectrum of senior housing facilities. Individual owner/operators, regional and national healthcare providers alike, put their trust in Shep to judiciously sell and lease their long term care facilities, having earned Shep an outstanding reputation nationwide.
For more than a decade Shep’s main goal has continued to be the improvement of the quality of care of our nation’s senior population, providing world-class brokerage services to both buyers and sellers of long term care facilities. Shep is well-versed in both Title 22, Title 17 and has been retained as an expert witness for the senior housing and care industry in California. Shep attended both Santa Monica College and the University of California Los Angeles.
When Shep is not at the office working, you may find him hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains, planning his next ascent of the highest peaks in the lower 48 states or on the slopes of Mammoth and Big Bear.
Michael is the newest addition to the JCH team. Michael’s responsibilities include originating new business and he is driven by his desire to assist developers, operators and investors in achieving their goals. Michael comes to JCH with over 16 years of prior experience in the senior housing and healthcare industry including 13 years with the National senior housing and healthcare valuation and consulting firm Tellatin, Short and Hansen as well as four years of mergers and acquisition work. During his 13-year tenure at TS&H, Michael worked on over 500 appraisal and market study assignments in 36 states including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing.
Michael resides in Salem, Oregon and has worked extensively across the country with primary emphasis in the Pacific Northwest. Michael received his BA in Accounting and Finance from University of Oregon, Charles H. Lundquist College of Business.
